Music as a fullscreen visual experience
ButterUp is a player for the published catalog from Suno Archive. Its focus is the listening experience: fullscreen playback, keyboard controls and audio-reactive visuals that can sit in the foreground or fade behind the music.
The documented version ships twenty-nine original Butterchurn presets and can optionally load the classic preset collection. Visuals are separate modules rather than one monolithic animation implementation.
Listening controls
- Playback, seeking and volume shortcuts.
- Next/previous track and shuffle.
- Independent visual selection.
- Fullscreen and hide/show-interface controls.
- An explicit warning when the browser cannot provide WebGL 2.
A read-only connection to the catalog
The application proxies Suno Archive's public API. It does not mount or alter the archive's media library or database, preserving a boundary between collecting/publishing music and presenting it.
A Vite workflow supports development, while Docker Compose packages the player. Deployment addresses are environment-specific and are intentionally omitted from this overview.
Tools for making new visuals
A local Butterchurn Expert MCP service supports corpus inspection, design briefs, technique research, validation, originality checks and Chromium/WebGL runtime verification. Preset installation is a separate explicit operation, with a dry-run default.
The authoring approach aims to make new visuals independently understandable and testable. The featured image is a conceptual music illustration, not a captured preset frame or a representation of a specific track.
