C64 Ingest

A provenance-aware ingestion pipeline that turns configured Commodore 64 BASIC sources into readable listings, executable programs and an organized catalog.

Conceptual processing workshop turning retro program sheets into organized program files and a provenance-linked catalog.

From scattered sources to a consistent collection

C64 Ingest processes configured source repositories and normalizes Commodore 64 BASIC programs into a predictable output structure. It keeps both a readable BASIC listing and an executable PRG, connecting the source text to something an emulator or machine can run.

Provenance is part of each record rather than an afterthought. Metadata accompanies the program files, while a root catalog is rebuilt in title order for downstream browsing or distribution.

The ingestion workflow

  • Read configured repositories, branches, patterns and categories.
  • Clone or fast-forward the target working repository.
  • Skip source records already processed at the same commit.
  • Write normalized source, executable output, metadata and documentation.
  • Validate the output and rebuild its sorted catalog.

Repeatable updates

The documented workflow creates a commit for each changed program. Pushing is an explicit configuration choice, and a no-push mode supports local inspection before any remote update.

A persistent working clone makes repeated runs incremental. The command can be launched through Docker Compose and scheduled by an external scheduler; the repository does not need to embed a particular hosting or scheduling environment.

Readable and executable forms

The pipeline includes a BASIC V2 tokenizer/detokenizer, with VICE petcat available as an optional tool. Its output pairs program.bas with program.prg and records source context in structured metadata.

The project is a collection-building tool rather than an emulator or a guarantee of rights to every upstream program. Source selection and redistribution remain deliberate decisions. Authentication values are supplied privately and are not reproduced in this overview; the featured artwork is conceptual.

Project notes

This overview was prepared from a private project repository reviewed on October 29, 2026. Source access remains private; credentials, internal endpoints and confidential implementation details are not included.
