Keep the source intact
dotMD is a desktop Markdown editor built around a non-destructive parsing approach. Unknown or disabled syntax is preserved instead of silently discarded, giving the writer a clear boundary between supported rendering and the underlying document.
Its Electron application combines a CodeMirror editor with a Unified/Remark/Rehype processing pipeline. The result is intended for working with real files and evolving Markdown extensions, rather than treating preview output as the only source of truth.
A flexible editing workspace
- Source-only, split source/preview and reading modes.
- Multiple document tabs with unsaved-change indicators.
- Several workspace roots with recursive folder navigation.
- A diff panel comparing the current buffer with saved disk content.
- Modular rich rendering, including Mermaid diagrams.
Deliberate file workflows
Manual saving, Save As and confirmation before closing modified buffers make file changes explicit. The interface also documents English/Danish switching and a dark desktop theme.
The project uses React and TypeScript for the interface and jsdiff for comparisons. This overview describes the documented editing workflow; the featured image is a conceptual writing scene rather than an actual dotMD screenshot.
