An archive built around the fonts themselves
FontArchive collects original font files and derives a searchable catalog from their embedded metadata. Visitors can explore families, type their own preview text, inspect glyphs and OpenType features, and adjust the axes of variable fonts.
The browsing experience is paired with an administration workflow for uploads, imports, duplicate review and publication policy. It is a font-management application rather than a grant of rights to the files it stores.
From upload to organized family
- Static and variable font support across common desktop and web formats.
- Persistent background ingestion with progress, retry and error reporting.
- Metadata-based family grouping and duplicate detection.
- Interactive family testers, glyph search and a collection bucket.
- Separate visibility and download permissions, including per-file overrides.
Explicit publication boundaries
The documented design treats catalog visibility, license status and redistribution permission as separate decisions. Unknown or restrictive licenses default conservatively, and downloads are checked by the backend.
React and Fastify sit above SQLite, with fontkit and Python fontTools for inspection and processing. Original files remain distinct from rebuildable previews and generated archives. The featured illustration is conceptual and does not reproduce a font specimen from the collection.
