A small experiment in browser-side satire
deTrump applies a predefined set of satirical text substitutions to the pages displayed in a browser. Its documented rules target references to Donald Trump, the White House and selected uses of a presidential title.
The extension changes the user's rendered view. It does not change the publisher's original article, verify factual claims or create a new authoritative version of the source. Its intended role is a personal satirical reading filter.
Language-aware replacement rules
English and Danish pages receive different replacement wording. The rules include name and possessive forms, a circus-themed substitution for White House references and a conditional treatment of the presidential title when the relevant name appears on the page.
The documentation also describes an explicit exclusion for references to Melania Trump. That exception illustrates why even a small text transformation needs context rather than a completely unrestricted word replacement.
Handling changing pages
- Process text in the displayed page.
- Choose between the documented English and Danish rule sets.
- Observe newly inserted content with MutationObserver.
- Account for pages that update without a full reload, such as feeds and single-page applications.
A browser customization project
The documented setup loads the repository as an unpacked Chrome extension. There is no separate service or deployment endpoint described as necessary for the replacement workflow.
The project is presented here as software and satire, not as factual political commentary or a recommendation about political choices. The featured illustration uses generic theatrical imagery; it is not a portrait, a real website capture or an altered news screenshot.
